Ceiling Draping, Backdrops & Lighting for your Special Event!
Event:  Park Center High School Senior Prom
Theme: "Into the Sunset"
The Design Goal: To create a vivid tropical sunset effect

The Drape Design: In order to emulate clouds at sunset, we draped horizontally across each of the three levels above the cortile floor, using wide white voile.  We created a Grand March entrance at one end and a DJ backdrop at the other end, with voile accented with gold lame'.

The Lighting Design: We wanted to make a big impact with color, while keeping our power usage to a minimum, so we used all low-wattage fixtures.  A mixture of conventional, LED and fluorescent fixtures were used to achieve various parts of the lighting design.  The conventionals were used to create the basic color wash on the drape itself.  The LEDs were used to gradually change the colors on the drape during the event.  Fluorescent shop lights were cover with blue gels and used to create the wash on the ceiling and upper floors.

Design color-scheme inspiration and selection:  I searched images online, in bookstores, fantasy artwork, calendars, and even some of my own sunset photographs before deciding on the colors I wanted to use.  I tested the colors together in my own "light lab" to be sure they would work on site, and would all work well together.  I wish the photos could have captured the colors a bit better, they really were much prettier live.  I think the LED fixtures put too much blue into what the camera read.
