Event: Wedding Reception, Lafayette Country Club
Theme: Tropical Nightclub
Design The clients came to me with a very specific idea for the event. The idea was to remove the "Gone with the Wind" vibe, and make it look more like a tropical nightclub. We decided to only do one drape swag over the entrance and let the lighting do the rest. The party had a very casual set-up, encouraging guests to wander around and mingle. There were four areas we focused the design on, with a different dynamic to each one but a cohesive feel to the entire set. Upon entering the party, one walked out of the stuffy old-world country club and into a magical atmosphere.

Lighting ~ The Ballroom was our first focus, with up-lighting in moonlight blue along the walls, highlighting the columns and creating a glow back to the highly polished floor. We also aimed lights directly at the two crystal chandeliers, colored in a greenish blue. The effect was like a glistening waterfall. The balcony swag drops were up-lit from behind in hot pink for a dramatic grand entrance for the wedding party. The Porch just off the Ballroom was lit with small fixtures in a vivid red-orange, for a surprising splash of color after the sun went down. In the Lakeview Room, we really ramped it up to nightclub energy with rich saturated pink and blue-green. Again we used the crystal chandeliers as reflecting surfaces instead of light sources, and created an interesting pattern across the ceiling with them. The Patio outside Lakeview Room, which was buzzing with folks enjoying the breeze off the lake all night, was a final touch. We ran blue rope-lights along the underside of the bottom railing around it, creating a blue glow on the ground. Two potted palms were up-lit in hot pink, and the harsh exterior lights were muted with blue-green gels. We accomplished this entire design with 50 fixtures: 16 Par 64s, 22 Par 46s, and 12 Par 38s - and NO house lights!t.
